Mother of beaten boy to be arraigned

FLINT A warrant was issued Friday charging Corrine Baker with second-degree murder and second-degree child abuse.

Baker was being held in the Livingston County Jail on unrelated probation violation charges. She was in custody for nearly one week following her son Dominick Calhoun's death the week before - April 12.

Her boyfriend, Brandon Hayes, has been charged with a number of felonies including torture and premeditated murder. Authorities say he beat Dominick over a period of four days beginning April 8.

It was only after a family member alerted his grandfather that Dominick was taken to the hospital.

Both Baker and Hayes were originally arrested, but Baker was released.

Investigators say she had been beaten by Hayes, too, but had a number of opportunities to get help for them both.

Authorities say even when others came over to buy drugs, Baker and Hayes refused help for Dominick because they were worried about their legal troubles.

Investigators say a neighbor even heard Dominick crying out for help, asking her to make "him" stop, and still she did nothing.
