Chicago aldermen lobby for state funding

April 28, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The alderman are urging lawmakers to act before the general assembly adjourns next week.

"The problem is that guns are being giving to our young folk and they're shooting anywhere, killing anybody," said 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts.

Along with gun control laws, the alderman will emphasize foreclosures and property tax assistance.

Mayor Daley supports the efforts of the aldermen.

"These gun laws will give us a new tool in the ongoing battle with the thugs that would terrorize our communities," said Daley.

The aldermen want to maintain funding for schools and ensure the state keeps its commitment to fund programs and initiatives that will improve the quality of life for Chicago residents.
