McShane is a graduate student from Northern Ireland who is studying at UIC. Slightly more than one week ago, she and her friend, Stacy Jurich, were attacked while walking in Bucktown.
McShane remains in critical condition, according to a spokesperson for Northwestern hospital.
Her friend, Joseph Haras, has been at her bedside nearly every day. He tells ABC7 Chicago he has seen signs of improvement over the last couple of days. He also says Natasha McShane's parents wanted to share this message:
"Keep the support and just believe that, believe that Natasha's going to get better. That's all they want. They want everyone to like pray," said Haras.
Two people charged in the attack.
An Illinois Masonic Hospital spokesperson tells ABC7 Stacy Jurich was treated and released from the hospital Friday.
