Fallen officer's father makes plea for peace

June 1, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Thomas Wortham received a standing ovation as he appeared before the Cook County Board. Commissioners passed a resolution, honoring his son, Thomas Wortham IV, who was shot to death last month in an apparent robbery attempt.

"I would hope that my son's death would make the city of Chicago, the world a safer place. That's what he wanted. He wanted us to be better people in the world," said Thomas Wortham, officer's father.

A number of commissioners offered their condolences to the Wortham family.
