Cook Co. suburbs can opt out of red light camera plan

The Cook County board voted Tuesday to let suburbs opt out of its plan to install red light cameras at certain intersections.

Two weeks ago the board approved a pilot program to install cameras at 20 intersections.

Six of the cameras would have been installed in Schaumburg. That town experimented with red-light cameras but removed them, and threatened legal action against Cook County, if new ones were installed.
