ComEd wants to raise rates

ComEd wants customers to pay about 7-percent-more for electricity.

The increase translates into about $6 a month more for the average homeowner. In a proposal sent to the Illinois Commerce Commission Wednesday the utility says it would use the money to modernize its grid, which would mean fewer and shorter power outages.

Any change in rates approved by the commission would take effect June of next year.
