A public memorial celebration is planned for later this week to honor slain Chicago police officer Thor Soderberg.

A private visitation service will be held Tuesday at Malec and Sons Funeral Home on North Milwaukee Avenue.

Then, on Thursday, a public memorial is planned at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Chicago.

Soderberg was shot to death with his own gun outside a police station at 61st and Racine last Wednesday.

A 24-year-old convicted felon is charged with his murder.
