At issue is the manual known as the DSM. It stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. It's published by the American Psychiatric Association.
Experts cited examples of new possible additions such as toddler tantrums, "mild anxiety depression", and temper dysregulation disorder, saying that could mean many people previously seen as perfectly healthy could in the future be told they are ill.
Leading mental health experts are warning that the DSM which is being revised now for publication in 2013 could devalue the seriousness of mental illness and label almost everyone as having some kind of disorder.
