Daley: 2020 Games likely to go to new location

September 25, 2010 (CHICAGO) Last year, Chicago lost its bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, which for the first time, will be in South America in Rio de Janeiro.

Daley says the International Olympic Committee will allocate Games to countries and continents that have never hosted and that Chicago and other American cities have little chance to host the 2020 Olympics.

"It has to go to India. It has to go to Africa. It must go to the Middle East," said Daley. "Say Johannesburg or Capetown is gonna bid. They're gonna get it. And Delhi, they're gonna get it. Someplace in the Middle East, they should get it. And that's the same reason they give for Rio de Janeiro. They've never been in that continent, which is really important."

Daley just returned from South Korea and China. He noted Chicago's quarter-century sister-city ties to shanghai. He also praised economic development in both countries and urged more tourism and investment in Shanghai.
