Eighteen-year-old Tyler Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge after discovering that fellow students had secretly streamed video of him having a sexual encounter with another man.
According to ABC News, Clementi posted the following on his Facebook page on Sept. 22, "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry."
"Had he been in bed with a woman, this would not have happened," Rutgers student Lauren Felton, 21, told The Associated Press. "He wouldn't have been outed via an online broadcast, and his privacy would have been respected and he might still have his life."
Officials say Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, and another student, Molly Wei, used a webcam to transmit the live stream of the same-sex encounter, and that Ravi later tried to webcast a second encounter a few days later. Both have been charged with invading Clementi's privacy.
Question of the Day: Should those who secretly posted video online of a Rutgers' student having sex be held criminally responsible for his suicide?
And... Do you think it was a hate crime?
