6 vie to replace Pabey as next East Chicago mayor

October 15, 2010 (EAST CHICAGO, Ind)

Pabey was convicted last month of conspiracy and theft of city funds for having city employees work on a private home he owns in Gary. City Controller Charlie "Tuna" Pacurar is serving as interim mayor.

The Times of Munster reports that there are six candidates seeking the office.

Pabey had been the mayor of East Chicago since 2004. He was elected in a special election ordered by the Indiana Supreme Court after it found that longtime Mayor Robert Pastrick's 2003 victory was tainted with corruption by his campaign.
