'Die in' calls for South Side trauma center

November 12, 2010 (CHICAGO) The protestors marched to the university's hospital and conducted what they call a 'die in,' laying on the concrete outside the hospital, many with shirts reddened to look as if they were bloody.

They say that such a prestigious hospital should have a trauma center.

The university closed its trauma center in 1988.

The hospital says that it "contributes to the region's urgent and emergency care needs in many unique ways." Those contributions, it says include the South Side's only pediatric trauma unit and burn unit.
