An accused bank robber nicknamed the Swine Flu Bandit by the FBI was a Bank of America employee, federal investigators said.

Matthew Mahoney, 28, is a suspect in nine holdups. Prosecutors say he wore a mask and told tellers he had the swine flu.

Mahoney was arrested last week in the South Loop. Prosecutors say Mahoney is on leave from Bank of America in Seattle because of an injury.

His mother is a Chicago police officer, and his father is serving prison time in a murder-for-hire plot.
