Protesters call for more charter schools in Chicago

November 17, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Multiple groups gathered at CPS headquarters for an alternative education rally. They say they want more options in public education.

Protesters signed petitions calling for more charter schools across the city.

"Our children deserve more," said Nettia Coleman, charter school parent. "More determined parents, more secure schools and dedicated teachers to give our children a chance."

"We want to see all of metro Chicago to get involved in the school reform struggle," said Susanna Lopez, United Power for Action and Justice. "We need leaders to commit to working toward quality education."

Wednesday's rally was organized by members of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools, the Renaissance Schools Fund, and DoneWaiting.org.
