Former State Comptroller Dan Hynes is the new U.S. observer to the International Fund for Ireland.

Hynes will represent the government at meetings of the fund's board of directors.

The fund is an independent organization partly financed by U.S. with a goal of fostering peace in Northern Ireland.

Hynes served three terms as Comptroller before losing a close race to Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary for governor.
