The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 4200-block of West Crystal Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The victim was identified as Margarita Navarette.
A 19-year-old male was also shot, and remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Police say both victims were inside a car when a gunman approached and opened fire.
Navarette died of multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
Her family says she was just a week away from finishing her studies as a nursing assistant.
