Trash collection is going high tech in Chicago.

The Sun-Times reports the Daley administration has signed a contract to get at least 400 solar-powered trash compactors.

The machine senses when trash reaches a certain level and triggers the compactor, which is powered by a solar-powered battery.

The new trash compactors would go in the central business district. Federal stimulus funds are helping pay for them.
