The Ford Explorer is now categorized as a crossover SUV after being redesigned from its original truck-based style.
Consumer Reports says while the new Explorer is roomy and has good fuel economy it falls short by having a noisy engine, a flawed driving position and less agility in handling.
Consumer Reports also says the optional 'My Ford' touch control system is too complicated and distracting.
The new Ford is built in Chicago and its sales more than double that of its predecessors.
