Tuesday would have been Martha Gonzalez's 38th birthday. She died October 13, 2009, when she was hit by a car and then a CTA bus at 18th and Halsted streets. The driver of the car never stopped.
Members of the Gonzalez family and friends gathered with Alderman Danny Solis to designate the 1700-block of South Halsted "Martha Gonzalez Place."
"We just want everybody to keep this in their heart, and whenever they see the sign driving by here to be reminded of the work she did and who she was," said Andrew Kudelka, Gonzalez's husband.
Following the sign unveiling, white balloons were released into the sky in memory of Gonzalez.
