The bridge, called the Englewood Flyover, would carry the Rock Island trains over the Norfolk Southern and Amtrak tracks at 63rd and State streets on the city's South Side. Lawmakers said they reached a deal -- with the Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern -- would create 1,400 jobs.
Congressman Dan Lipinski, who helped secure federal funding for the project, said the flyover will also help end train delays for thousands of riders.
