Researchers are calling the compound VUAA1. They say it is thousands of times more effective than Deet, he active ingredient now found in mosquito repellants.
The repellent also seems to work against flies, moths and ants.
"This compound turns on all the receptors on the mosquitoes nose at one time and shouts whoaa! And that is something the mosquitoes don't like," said one researcher. "The work that was done here really opens the door to developing a new generation of repellants."
Consumers cannot buy VUAA1 yet.
