Jack Daniel McCullough was supposed to be in court Saturday, but a judge says he was taken to a trauma center instead.
The 71-year-old from Seattle was charged Friday with killing 7-year-old Maria Ridulph, who was abducted in December 1957 while she was playing with a friend in Sycamore.
Her body was found several months later.
Police say McCullough, who used to live in Sycamore, was a suspect early on in the investigation, but he said that he took a train from Rockford to Chicago on the day Maria was taken.
Last year, police interviewed a woman McCullough was dating at the time. A Seattle newspaper reports that she found an unused train ticket from Rockford to Chicago, which seemed to dispute McCullough's alibi.
