The Times of Munster, citing a review of Indiana Department of Child Services records, reported Sunday that only one adult claims to have taken her concerns about Christian Choate to legal authorities
Investigators have said the boy was beaten for several years and kept in a cage for as long as a year before the 13-year-old's death in early 2009. His disappearance went unreported until Lake County police unearthed his body in May from in a shallow grave in a Gary mobile home park.
His father and stepmother face murder and other charges. Both have pleaded not guilty.
