State Representative Randy Ramey was charged last month when police officers in Carol Stream say they saw him driving his vehicle erratically.
Prosecutors say Ramey's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Ramey issued a statement, saying he takes full responsibility for his actions, and he apologized to and constituents.
Ramey took over the helm of the DuPage County Republican Party in July.
