Javier Flores, 36, was arrested for stealing clothes from the Old Navy store on Harlem Avenue.
Police say Flores later became hostile and bit a male officer on the thumb, breaking the skin. Flores then told officers he was HIV positive.
Oak Park police say they expect the officer to be OK.
Flores is being held without bond.
