Ohio man accused of ripping off Chicago churches

January 5, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Forty-two-year-old Jamal Lawson of Dayton, Ohio, is charged with wire fraud.

Prosecutors say Lawson told victims his company had approved mortgages for them and he required fees upfront. They say he got at least $308,000 knowing he would never provide the mortgages.

The other churches and businesses are in Georgia, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Oregon and Virginia.
