Children's doctors recommend HPV vaccine for boys

The nation's largest group of pediatricians is now recommending that all boys between the ages of 11 and 12 receive the three-dose vaccine for the human papillomavirus.

It is said to be the most significant change in the latest immunization schedule by The Pediatric Group.

The HPV vaccine has been available and recommended for girls and young women since 2006 for preventing cervical cancer.

The Pediatric Group says, currently, immunizing only girls isn't effective from a public health perspective since males are also participants in the transmission of HPV.

The CDC made the same recommendation last fall.
