An inmate at the Cook County Jail is undergoing a psychological evaluation after he apparently tried to break free. He ended up in the hospital instead.

Jail staff say the man broke away from a line of inmates as they were being moved from one part of the jail to another.

The Cook County's Sheriff's Department said the inmate ran, but got stuck in a trench near a jail wall. He had to be rescued.

He was taken to the hospital for what police said were minor injuries.
