They were not at the beach for fun in the sun. The students from grades fifth through eighth participated in a unity rally and prayer for a peaceful summer.
A banner for Students Against Violence Everywhere, or SAVE, was placed at the beach.
The rally was sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago Office for Black Catholics.
