School service employees get new contract

June 15, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Fifty-five hundred workers are covered by the three-year deal .

Service Employees International Union members are getting a 2 percent raise in each of the three years.

School janitors, child welfare attendants and special education classroom assistants are covered by the contract.

It includes first-time-ever maternity leave benefits. There is also a wellness plan to help motivate workers to stay healthy.
