United Airlines hangar at O'Hare partially collapses during storm

July 26, 2012 (CHICAGO)

According to ABC7 meteorologist Tracy Butler, 70 mph winds were reported at O'Hare at around 1:30 a.m.

The wind is to blame for a crumbled wall at an airport hangar. Bricks were tossed into the parking lot. There were no injuries.

Grazyna Demonte lives in the 2800-block of Craig Drive, which was hit hard by sheets of rain and strong wind.

"It started between 12:30 and lasted until 2:30," said Demonte.

The storm also knocked out power in the Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Rosemont areas, where you could see darkened traffic and railroad crossing signs.

"The storm, I mean the wind was just whipping everywhere," said Des Plaines resident Joe Catalano. "It sounded like hail, but I didn't see any hail."
