He has been identified as Edward Wiggins, 66, of Gary.
The homemade gyrocopter went down shortly after taking off from Lansing municipal airport Monday morning. It crashed in a cornfield just off the runway.
The pilot was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
There is no word on the cause of the crash.
