A judge ordered Darris Moore, 31, held without bond while charged with aggravated battery with a firearm Saturday.
According to the police, the boy, Jaylen Price, was not the intended target of Wednesday's shooting, which occurred during a fight between two groups of men.
The boy was in stable condition Sunday.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Moore was on probation for a 2008 armed robbery.
