The Center for Environmental Health says testing detected traces of the carcinogen 4-mel in the soda's caramel coloring.
In March, Pepsi and Coca-Cola said they would adjust their formulas after California passed a law mandating drinks containing a certain level of carcinogens come with a cancer warning label.
Pepsi says its sodas should transition to the new caramel coloring by February.
