It was just Monday, when hundreds of new recruits graduated in a ceremony at Navy Pier.
Friday, Senator Dick Durbin announced that Chicago and four other communities in Illinois were awarded $3.5 million in federal funds for the additional officers.
That money is part of a much larger nationwide federal grant.
