The race caps at 45,000 runners.
This year is the first time organizers are using a lottery system to admit runners.
There are exceptions though: if you've run in at least five of the last ten Chicago Marathons you get a guaranteed entry, or if you run a qualifying time, 3:15 for men, 3:45 for women.
The marathon is on October 12th.
