2 bystanders help deliver baby after couple gets stuck in traffic

SEA BRIGHT, N.J. -- Traffic on the Jersey Shore can be a nightmare, especially for a woman in labor - one couple found that out the hard way.

"I said we're going to hit some traffic," said Trevor Abbud.

Upcoming traffic was the warning 23-year-old Trevor gave his pregnant wife, Rose as she loaded into their car at the Jersey Shore, headed to the hospital after her water broke. Sure enough, the couple got stuck in traffic in Sea Bright.

"I look over and I see her stomach, and now she's screaming and stuff - she's like in labor and I see her stomach, and it's smaller," Trevor adds, "I'm like, that baby is not in the stomach anymore."

It was while in bumper-to-bumper traffic that Trevor and Rose realized they were not going to make it to the hospital.

"I'm like 'Rose, calm down', she's like, 'no, she's coming now'," says Trevor, "that's when she puts the seat in recline and she takes her pants off, and I see the baby's head. I'm like 'oh my God, no'."

In a panic, Trevor started honking his horn for help while he called 911.

"What really freaked me out is I saw her eyes, I saw her whole head, but she wasn't crying, and I started freaking out. I didn't think she was alive," adds Trevor.

Luckily the car in front of him had a trauma nurse, and the car in back was carrying EMT Lauren Kammerer.

"Her head and her shoulders were already out by the time that we got there, so it was literally like 'okay, you ready to push?', and she did," says Kammerer.

7 pound, 13 ounce Bella Rose made it through the delivery, as did mom. Both were taken to the hospital where they are doing great.

"I'm just so thankful she's healthy, and my wife's healthy. What a story - she's going to love this when she's older," says Trevor.

The couple also has an 18-month-old son.
