DEERFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Brad Schneider is inching closer to reclaiming the 10th District in the U.S. House. He won the Democratic nomination Tuesday over Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering.
"This has been a tough race. It was a tough in 2012 primary. It was a hard general election in 2012. I know with the team we have, the support I have from people from all over the district will be good in November," Schneider said.
Schneider was elected to Congress in 2012 but lost his seat to Bob Dold in 2014.
Congressman Dold said his record of bipartisanship will define this year's race.
"While Brad Schneider sadly decided to run a campaign committed to the very same extremism and bitter partisanship that has defined the national political discussion, our campaign will continue to be about how we come together to find common ground to move our country and our whole community forward," Dold said in a statement released overnight.
The 10th District includes parts of Cook and Lake counties in Illinois, from Lake Michigan south into the northern suburbs.
