Consumer Reports is in the midst of testing bicycle helmets for spring, but recently came across a serious problem with a helmet made by Cannondale.

Consumer Reports is rating the Cannondale "Teramo" helmet a "Don't Buy" after the chinstrap buckle broke on four of the five models Consumer Reports put through its safety test.

"All 13 of the other adult bike helmets we tested the same way passed our test. But this helmet could pose a safety risk to bike riders. In an accident, the buckle could break and the helmet could come off leaving a cyclist unprotected," said John Galeotafiore, Consumer Reports.

Cannondale says it stands by its "independent third-party test results" in which it says no buckles broke. And that its "helmets are tested in accordance with the required protocol and have passed all testing." consumer reports doesn't know of any injuries with the Teramo helmet and the company says it hasn't received any reports of injuries.

Consumer Reports recommends, if you own the Cannondale Teramo helmet, stop using it. But be sure to always wear a helmet when riding a bike.
