Dozens take American citizenship oath in Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Dozens of people woke up Tuesday as citizens of another country, but now they are Americans.

One of them is ABC7'S own Ravi Baichwal. He and his family emigrated from Canada nearly 9 years ago.

In Chicago, he joined people from more than 40 other countries taking the oath to become citizens. He described what it meant to make it official.

"It is the completion of a journey. And it is something that is profoundly meaningful and once you get to this stage you didn't know it would be this important to you but it's deeply important," Baichwal said.
