CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 33-year-old Chicago man was charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed 34-year-old Chris Sanchez in the city's Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Felix Fajardo, of the 5100-block of West Patterson Avenue, was charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident.

Police said Fajardo was driving an SUV caught on a surveillance camera near the 3200-block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 5:20 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Fajardo allegedly struck Sanchez as he was crossing Milwaukee at Belmont Avenue and drove away.

Sanchez was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died. His family said he was walking home and had promised his father he would be up early the next day to visit the gravesite of his recently deceased mother.

Family and friends will hold a vigil for the victim of a hit-and-run.

Sanchez made a habit of taking long walks at night to clear his head after her death.

A man who worked with Sanchez at a car dealership in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood described him as a dedicated service employee and a kind person.

Fajardo is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday morning.
