Police: 3rd person dies after South Side arson

CHICAGO -- A third person died Saturday of injuries suffered in an August fire at a Back of the Yards neighborhood home on the South Side, which Chicago Police have ruled an arson.

Danny Darling, 58, was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. at Stroger Hospital, following the Aug. 27 fire at his home in the 5400 block of South Laflin, according to the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Two more people were found dead after the fire was extinguished about 2 a.m., fire officials said at the time. They were identified as 61-year-old Tommie Darling, who also lived in the home, and 55-year-old Doris Anderson, whose home address was unknown.

Investigators with CPD's Bomb and Arson Unit determined someone intentionally started the fire, and have classified the case as a homicide investigation, police said Saturday. No one was in custody.

Autopsies did not rule on the causes or manners of the first two victims' deaths, with results pending further studies. An autopsy for Danny Darling was scheduled for Sunday.
