FORTH WORTH, Texas -- A dog was reunited with his family in Texas after nearly seven years.
Mason Montez was 12 when his family adopted Corky, a terrier mix. He remembers taking his new pet for walks and making sure he was well-fed.
But in 2009, Corky disappeared from his yard, WFAA reports.
"A lot of crying and, you know, getting upset," Mason said. "After a couple years I realized, you know, I may not see him again. Until a couple days ago."
His owners gave up any hope of finding him after several months of searching turned up nothing.
"We looked everywhere. We looked all over the community for him. I mean, I didn't want to tell him, you know, that Corky may not be alive," said Jimmy Montez, Mason's father.
Last weekend, Corky was spotted with two other dogs about 30 miles from where he went missing. They were taken to the Humane Society of North Texas.
Since Corky was microchipped, the staff was able to connect with his family. They set out to pick him up immediately.
"It felt amazing, to finally see my old friend back home again," Mason Montez said.
There's no word on where Corky spent his time away. But he did bond with a one-eyed dog named Captain on the street. The Montez family decided to bring him home with them too.
"We're considering getting him a patch!" Jimmy Montez said.
