CHICAGO (WLS) -- The annual Earth Hour will take place worldwide on Saturday night.

From 8:30-9:30 p.m., people, businesses and governments are encouraged to turn off non-essential lights and other electronic items for one hour to conserve energy and reduce emissions.

Earth Hour began in 2007 as a campaign to raise awareness to climate change.
