SKOKIE, Ill. (WLS) -- One person is dead and several others are injured after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday on Edens Expressway at Gross Point Road, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said at about 1:37 a.m. they received a call for a fatal crash involving three passenger vehicles, a Black 2014 BMW sedan, a 2014 black Chevrolet sedan and a 2013 white Toyota taxi. The 25-year-old man driving the BMW sedan lost control of his car and hit the other two cars, police said. The taxi overturned and the driver, whose age and gender were not known, died of their injuries.

The BMW sedan was carrying three passengers: a 24-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, police said. The Chevrolet sedan was driven by a 28-year-old woman and carrying a 26-year-old passenger. The driver of the BMW sedan and two passengers were taken to local hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said, though they didn't say which two passengers.

Northbound lanes were shut down at 2 a.m. while authorities investigated. All lanes reopened at 8:15 a.m.

It's unclear what caused the driver of the BMW sedan to lose control of the car. It's also unclear whether anyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
