GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A northwest Indiana family is struggling to recover from a devastating crash at their home.

Two people were injured, and one is in intensive care. The family wonders why the driver who crashed into their Gary home nearly two weeks ago has not been arrested.

The car left a gaping hole in the front of the house and several rooms in shambles. Inside, 39-year-old Akisha Williams was asleep.

"I didn't think she was that critical until I got to the hospital, and she was all swollen up, and just everything. I lost it," said Dretta Williams, victim's sister.

Akisha's sister and mother spoke to Eyewitness News outside the hospital where their loved-one is being treated for massive internal injuries.

"I want to see her back to herself. I'm sorry," said Mattie Williams, victim's mother.

The family says it happened June 4 at Akisha's home in Gary, which is now boarded up. The tire marks left behind indicate a high rate of speed. Akisha's mom was there, but not hurt.

"I heard a boom sound. It sounded like a bomb," said Mattie Williams.

A white BMW, she says, had plowed into the house around three in the morning. The two men in the car helped pull Akisha from debris. But as police arrived, the family says the two men fled on foot.

"Accidents happen, but come forth. At least let us know what happened. Turn yourselves in, you know," said Dretta Williams.

Also injured was Akisha's 7-year-old daughter, whose arm was broken. She is being cared for by relatives as doctors care for her mother.

"I've been praying for her. I know God can heal her. I know he's a healer. And I know she's a healer. And I know God can lift her up," said Mattie Williams.

Eyewitness News was unable to reach anyone at Gary Police for comment on the status of their investigation. The family says the car was left at the scene, but it's unclear if the license plate can be used to identify the men inside.
