CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking near a park in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood Saturday.

Police said the girl was walking in the park in the 7800-block of South Calumet when an unknown offender grabbed her, brought her to an abandoned building, and sexually assaulted her.

The assault happened between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., police said. The girl was transported to Comer Children's hospital in good condition.

"She walks that way to catch the bus and goes to school right there on the corner," said Lisa Robson, the girl's neighbor. "It got me shook up."

Community activist took to the streets Sunday night to spread the word about the building, which they want secured.

"We all have kids, we have daughters, we have friends with kids," said Michael Airhart of All Kids Matter Foundation. "Can you imagine your daughter being raped in an abandoned building?"
