DANVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- The Salvation Army is trying to figure out the worth of a surprise donation after someone dropped a gold bar into a red kettle in downstate Illinois.

It happened outside a Big R store in Danville, Ill. The Salvation Army says someone wrapped a gold bar inside a $10 bill and dropped it in. They say it may be worth between $1,200-$1,300.

The Danville Salvation Army is just a few thousand dollars short of its $50,000 fundraising goal.

The surprise comes as some other mysterious donations have been found inside the famous red kettles, including several gold crowns in Indiana and four gold teeth in Florida.
