EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A UPS truck hit a woman crossing the busy intersection of Central Street and Ashland Avenue in Evanston on Monday evening.
The woman was struck around 5 p.m. as the truck turned south onto Ashland, across the street from Ryan Field. Conditions were wet and dark at the time of the incident.
Police said the 30-year-old woman was pinned underneath the truck before emergency crews rescued her and rushed her to NorthShore University Hospital. Her injuries appeared to be life-threatening, police said.
A UPS spokesperson says the employee involved is an experienced driver and not a seasonal worker.
UPS said they are working with Evanston police and have started an internal investigation into the incident.
