INDIANA (WLS) -- Indiana State Police are warning everyone to watch out for scammers saying they're looking to help the Harvey recovery effort.

Police said they have been contacted by people saying that that they have received phone calls from individuals who identified themselves as Indiana State Police and solicited funds for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The scammers can make their numbers look like state police are calling on caller ID, police warn. Officers said they are not soliciting donations and are not contacting anyone by phone for money.

Police recommend asking anyone soliciting money to send information in the mail and to do your homework.
